International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

IBDP

The International Baccalaureate  Diploma Program (IBDP) is recognized as one of the most rigorous and respected college-preparatory curricula in the world. IB programs are offered in more than 6,000 schools across more than 160 countries, with approximately 930 schools in the United States authorized to deliver the prestigious Diploma Program. Waterloo Community Schools is the only district in the state of Iowa to offer the Diploma Program.

At its core, the IB is driven by a mission to create a better world through education. The program fosters intercultural understanding and respect—not as a replacement for cultural or national identity, but as an essential component of responsible global citizenship in the 21st century. This program inspires students worldwide to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who recognize that people with different perspectives and experiences can also be right.

Students enrolled in IB courses can be confident that their studies meet internationally recognized standards, in addition to state and local requirements. The IB Diploma Program is designed for academically capable and highly motivated students who are willing to commit to a demanding course of study. Success in the program requires strong time-management skills, effective study habits, and a dedication to academic excellence—qualities that prepare students for success in college and beyond.
