Seal of Biliteracy

The Waterloo Community School District acknowledges the Seal of Biliteracy. Testing is provided for all eligible candidates in the spring of the student’s junior or senior year. If the student passes the exam, a seal will be affixed on the diploma. In addition, the student’s transcript will indicate this accomplishment and recognition is given at graduation.

The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a district to recognize students who have attained proficiency, by high school graduation, in two or more languages, one of which is English. The Waterloo Schools is proud to recognize the value of language diversity and cultural identity. Language is seen as an asset and prepares our students for the labor market and the global society. In addition, the seal provides employers and universities with a method to recognize applicants for their dedication to the attainment of biliteracy. College credit is awarded at institutes that recognize the seal.
