Our District
At the Waterloo Community School District, we believe education opens doors, expands horizons, and shapes futures. Guided by our vision of One Waterloo, Infinite Possibilities, we are committed to ensuring every student is seen, supported, and empowered to graduate with a diploma and a plan.
Serving almost 10,000 students across 19 campuses, Waterloo Schools is one of the largest and most dynamic districts in Iowa. Our schools serve families throughout Waterloo, Evansdale, Elk Run Heights, Gilbertville, Raymond, portions of Cedar Falls, and surrounding communities in Black Hawk County. Each day, our classrooms are filled with curiosity, creativity, and opportunity as students discover their strengths and build the foundation for lifelong success.
Our work is driven by approximately 1,700 dedicated educators and staff members who bring passion, expertise, and purpose to their roles. With nearly 40 percent of our educators holding advanced degrees, our students benefit from a team deeply committed to excellence, innovation, and student-centered learning. Together, our staff creates environments where students feel a strong sense of belonging and are inspired to reach their full potential.
As an independent governmental entity governed by a seven-member Board of Education, Waterloo Schools is accountable to the community we serve. The Board establishes the district’s direction and priorities, while the Superintendent leads the daily work of ensuring high-quality instruction, strong systems of support, and meaningful opportunities for every student.
We know that student success extends beyond the classroom. Through partnerships with organizations such as First Student, Black Hawk County, and Drive Tek, we provide transportation, health services, and driver’s education to support students’ safety and well-being. Our nutrition services team also plays a vital role, serving nearly 1.5 million meals each year to ensure students are nourished and ready to learn.
Waterloo Schools is proud to offer innovative programs that help students explore their passions and prepare for the future. Initiatives such as Life Labs, the Waterloo Career Center, and Success Street connect students with hands-on learning, career pathways, and individualized support. These experiences empower students to discover who they are and who they aspire to become.
At Waterloo Schools, we are more than a district. We are a community united by a shared purpose. We are building pathways, expanding opportunities, and shaping the next generation of leaders. Together, we are creating a future defined by possibility.
One Waterloo. Infinite Possibilities.
