The Waterloo Youth City Council (WYCC) is hosting a collection drive for the Black Hawk Grundy Mental Health Center. The student-led initiative, with senior Alonzia Quinn at the helm, is being held through April 30th. The WYCC is collecting items such as fidget toys, weighted blankets, journals, coloring books, art supplies, essential oils, playing cards and more.
“The group has been focused on raising awareness for youth mental health for the past two years, and this collection drive is the perfect opportunity to give items to the Black Hawk Grundy Mental Health Center for them to allocate,” said Quinn. “Mental health awareness month begins May 1st and I believed this would be a great way to kick off the month and give these items to them to begin the month off on a great note.”
Collection boxes are located in the Main Office at East High School and at the Cedar
ValleySportsplex.Monetary donations are also accepted at East High, with checks made out to the Black Hawk Grundy Mental Health Center or the Waterloo Youth City Council.
“I took the lead to distribute the boxes and flyers to the Cedar Valley Sportsplex, the Black Hawk County Health Department, and East High School,” said Quinn. “The only box that is not available for the public to place items in is the Health Department, but the other two locations are happily accepting items from the public.”
