Construction Overview

Planning and construction for Waterloo United High School will unfold in several phases between 2025 and 2028, with key milestones including leadership appointments, programming and staffing development, road reconstruction and major building completion. Early work began in spring 2025 with initial infrastructure improvements and will continue with steady progress on the new performing arts wing, academic spaces and athletic amenities through summer 2028. The project will culminate with staff and student access, community tours and the official opening of Waterloo United High School in fall 2028.

The district extends its sincere appreciation to INVISION Architecture and Larson Construction for their expertise, collaboration and commitment to keeping this complex project on schedule as the vision for Waterloo United High School becomes a reality.

Road Construction Detour Maps

The City of Waterloo is planning a series of road improvements in the area surrounding Central, including portions of Greenhill Road, Katoski, Huntington, and Downing Roads. This work is part of the preparation for the new Waterloo United High School and will include the addition of roundabouts.

Phase one of construction started in April 2026, and includes road closures along Katoski Drive, specifically at the intersections of Katoski & Greenhill through north of Huntington. As a result, all access to Central’s front parking lot will be rerouted from Katoski Drive. The new main entrance will be the east driveway on Huntington Drive. Signs will be posted to help show the new entrance.

Please note the new entrance using the green arrows on the map below. The sidewalk path across Huntington is still available for students who walk to school.

The City of Waterloo has developed this detour map for the public and will have clear signage placed throughout the neighborhoods to guide traffic.
