Chromebook Information

The Waterloo Community School District recognizes that technology can be leveraged as an important tool to enhance student learning. In an effort to ensure students have access to technology, all first through twelfth graders will be issued a chromebook laptop computer.

  • 1st – 5th graders will not generally transport chromebooks to and from school except when necessary to continue learning during absences and/or school closures.
  • 6th – 12th graders generally take their chromebooks between school and home.

To allow your student access to these devices, a chromebook loan agreement form must be signed and turned in/submitted to the student’s assigned building.  It is included with online school registration or you can access it here.     Chromebook Loan Agreement Form

Parents of students in grades 6-12 are liable for the replacement part cost in the event that a component of the chromebook is damaged. Parents are liable for the replacement cost of the chromebook if it’s lost or damaged beyond repair.  Another device will not be issued to the student until arrangements are made to pay for the lost or damaged fees that were beyond repair.   There is an optional Cooperative Loss and Damage Program that each student can enroll at any time during the school year.  This does continue to through to each school year.  Each student must opt in every school year.

However, payment of the $25 premium must be made prior to the damage or loss occurring for the discounted cost to be charged. Note that in the case of complete loss or theft, a police report must be provided for the cooperative damage and loss program’s discounted cost to be charged.

If your student has issues with their chromebook they can come to the library for assistance.  Someone will troubleshoot the issue and determine if a device will be given as a loaner if the device needs to be sent in for repair.   The loaner should be treated just like the original device.  If anything happens to that device, parents are still responsible for the cost of repair/damage.

If you do not have internet access at home please contact your school and they can direct you to the contact person to possibly arrange for an internet Hotspot for your student.
